The mucus plug is a mass that develops during pregnancy. It varies from person to person. The mucus plug is about 4 5 centimeters long or about 1 ounce in volume. It s possible to lose the mucus plug weeks before going into labor but it often happens days or hours before labor.
It can be clear white green yellow slightly pink or brown kinda like the mucus that expels from your nose and throat normally though they are off white with streaks of pink. You might lose hope. The reality is that not everyone has a true plug. Only 4 or something like that of labours have water breaking pre ceeding the contractions.
Its very common to lose the plug but again doesn t always happen. People can speak to a doctor or midwife about any mucus tinged. You can definitely lose your plug without noticing though. Just try to let nature take its course as challenging as that can be in the exciting time leading up to labor and delivery.

No you should never pull out your mucus plug as you don t want to risk infection. U can be in labor and do not have to pass your mucus plug or your water bag breaking i was in labor with both of my kids none of this happened with my first son i was in labor at.
If you are having strong contractions 3 5 minutes apart for an hour you could be in labor even without bloody show or loss of mucous plug. Losing the mucus plug is your body s way of getting ready to deliver. Your water can t actually break until your plug is gone because the plug does just that. I did with both of mine the second one i lost it and then went into labour the same day. The mass is created by cervical. Losing the mucus plug is not usually harmful but it may indicate a person is at risk of preterm labor if it happens before 37 weeks.
