The trick is incredibly simple. Aluminium foil can easily burn and melt and its lightweight nature means it flaps about in fan ovens. This allows the air to flow unobstructed around the food being cooked above. But you can line a baking tray with foil and use this on the bottom shelf.
The foil may not be able. So can you put foil in an oven toaster. Although it is not recommendable to do so yes you can use foil in your toaster. Line the bottom rack with a sheet of foil to catch anything dripping from above.
The only exception to this is an induction oven because you cannot put foil in most of those.
