Can You Vent A Dryer Into The Garage
Camila Farah
No you should never vent a dryer into a closed space.
The dust lint and moisture will be more than you can clean up not to mention the mold that will grow. This is usually done using a pipe section which extends from your vent to the wall. This also means that you can t blow the dryer exhaust into the attic or the crawlspace. Personally for only 200 i d get it done properly.
If you can t open as many doors and windows as you can to promote airflow in the venting area. I ve used one for 30 years. You can use a dryer heat diverter. Always vent a dryer outside.
There is also extensive mold on the plywood that is not readily visible in the picture. You must terminate your dryer vent outside the building according to section m1502 of the irc. The photo above shows the area above a dryer vent terminating into that same bucket in the garage. If you are putting a dryer vent into your home you need to have a connection to the outside air.

Venting a dryer to the garage especially in winter means that you re pumping humid air into a cold place. Empty your lint bucket between each laundry load and refill it with fresh water. For dryers that are located in a place where venting to the outside is difficult it s ok to simply vent the dryer into a container of water. When you pick a load of clothes up they are full of water and that water is going into the garage it does nt just disappear.
Vent your dryer to an area you can easily access and terminate the vent at a bucket of water to contain as much lint as you can. Installing a vent into a dryer which is in the garage can be more complicated as you will have to extend the pipe work throughout the garage and place the end vent in the location of the outside wall. The main function of your dryer is to remove moisture from textiles using heated air that s forced through the inside. It might be a tempting alternative to vent your dryer into your garage and while it may save you from having to crawl under your house or punch a hole in the exterior it s not as good of an idea as it might seem.
