That photo does actually show the gulf of alaska and the clear divide in the water is a remarkable phenomenon but it doesn t show where two oceans meet but do not mix.
These two bodies of water were merging in the middle of the gulf of alaska and there was a foam developing only at their junction. Fresh water meets sea water the gulf of alaska. This is the fraser river. 2 oceans meet but don t mix fact but phenomenon pic shows 2 different ocean water bodies meeting in middle of alaskan gulf where a foam is formed at the merging junction this happens when glaciers of fresh water start melting and flow to join the ocean water which is more salty due to the difference in the salinity and densities of these 2 meeting ocean water bodies a surface tension is developed between them that acts like a thin wall and does not allow them to mix.
Also ansering the question that why don t the atlantic and the pacific ocean mix. Having an uneven combination of mountain forest and tidewater glaciers gulf of alaska is the place where two oceans meet but interestingly they never mix with each other as is believed. Why do the two oceans not mix. The reason for this strange phenomenon is due to the difference of water density temperature and salinity of the glacial melt water and off shore waters of gulf of alaska making it difficult to mix.
The color variations of dark blue and electric blue water in that merging point is clear and stunning. The gulf of alaska has two oceans that meet but do not mix.
