That is absolutely not why.
Humans have not yet depleted resources so much that monkeys cannot survive. No scientist in human history has ever said that the reason there are still monkeys is because despite being our ancestors they did not evolve at the same rate. They diverged from this ancestor around 8mya and evolved in different directions to their present form. If that sounds contradictory or confusing it is.
But you might equally reasonably choose to exclude humans and apes from your definition of monkeys. This explains why there are similarities. We share a common ancestor and at some point the evolutionary path split into two separate lineages one leading to monkeys while the other one led to early man. This is why there are.
Second because humans other apes and monkeys all inhabit and evolved to fill separate niches. Instead monkeys and humans share a common ancestor from which both evolved around 25 million years ago. The monkeys that we evolved from are no longer here. Humans could not survive as well as gorillas do in that particular niche nor could gorillas live as humans do.

But only because the original question is equally confusing to anyone familiar with the basics of biology. Humans didn t evolve from monkeys and they didn t evolve from any animals alive today. The theory of evolution sates that humans and chimps shared a common ancestor. This evolutionary relationship is supported both by the fossil record and dna analysis.
It makes sense to them to ask. Humans did not evolve from monkeys at least not the kind we see today. Monkeys are still around because they are still perfectly viable species capable of finding food and breeding. In which case not only did we humans evolve from monkeys but we still are monkeys.
Why are there still apes. Whether we evolved from monkeys is completely irrelevant to the question.
