Why Are My Fish At The Top Of The Tank After Water Change
Camila Farah
They will float uncontrollably to the top of the aquarium turned upside down while still being alive.
Over time the by products of fish waste uneaten food particles dead leaves from plants etc alter the chemistry of the water. Some of them are closely related. This is not normal. Because the fish live in the water and the changes happen slowly they adjust to it.
The cause is more complex than that. I would recommend a step water change right away to get the toxins down to acceptable levels. When the fish owner put them in the fish tank. But i couldn t do such a massive water change where i removed all of the beneficial and good bacteria from my tank.
Since fishes have no body heat they are sensitive to sudden changes in water temperature. When affected by swim bladder disorder fish will often lose the ability to properly swim. When you feed your fish some of the food float in the water for a while but then they go settle at the bottom of the fish tank with other detritus of the fish tank. Once the fish digests the food it secrets waste that again accumulates at the bottom of the fish tank.

These wastes secrete ammonia and nitrite into the water which is toxic to fishes. Fish died in shock because there is a sudden large change in water temperature ph hardness etc. The fish are gathering at the top to try to get oxygen and escape the toxic levels in the tank.
