Camila Farah
Rudolf schilder assistant professor of entomology at penn state university took some time to explain why pennsylvania residents are seeing so many dragonflies this month.
They are either there for mating which isn t likely b c the females need a water source to lay their. Dragonflies are born and spend most of their lives in aquatic habitats so you can attract them by building a pond in your yard. If you see large swarms around your home consider yourself lucky. Dragonflies are pretty territorial so they have picked your back yard as a place to gather.
But dragonflies are among the many insects considered by entomologists to be beneficial to landscapes. If you normally have a few dragonflies in your yard but suddenly find you have swarms of them it may be due to weather conditions which sometimes collude to create an ideal environment for the insects to thrive.
