Why Can T Pregnant Women Ride Roller Coasters
Olivia Luz
What makes roller coasters a health risk is the jarring motions that occur throughout the ride as well as the rapid starts and stops.
As a rule of thumb riding a roller coaster during pregnancy is not a good idea. Pregnant women can t ride roller coasters because the placenta will disconnect from the uterus wall causing a miscarriage. It is truly not safe to choose to ride roller coasters while pregnant in the first trimester since the chances of miscarriage are highest at that stage. Well with my first i went and rode all kind of roller coasters and found out a few weeks later that i was pregnant.
This rigorous activity creates additional jarring forces within the uterus that may lead to premature separation of the placenta from the wall of the uterus which is called placental abruption. You probably can in very early pregnancy but it is still better to avoid it. While rare the mere force of a roller coaster while in motion could cause the placenta to detach from the wall of the uterus a dangerous condition known as placenta abruption. Although there isn t a scientific consensus that roller coasters and other high speed rides are harmful during pregnancy they haven t been proven completely safe either.
As you progress through your pregnancy sitting on a rollercoaster ride can increase your blood pressure or cause stress on the abdomen which isn t safe for the child. That is mainly because those jarring movements of roller coasters will not affect the placenta that is still at its earlier stages of development. Why pregnant women should avoid thrill rides according to the american pregnancy association the rigorous activity associated with a thrill ride can cause jarring forces in the uterus that could in turn cause a placental abruption premature separation of the placenta from the mother s uterine wall. While it can cause complications it is less likely to cause a miscarriage at this stage.
