Why did america repeal the 18th amendment.
Prohibition in the united states was a nationwide constitutional ban on the production importation transportation and sale of alcoholic beverages from 1920 to 1933. America had changed it mind on the prohibition law because the prohibition was helping criminals make money. The government saw that homicide rates had jumped by 3 per 100 000 americans. America changed its mind on prohibition because it made life hard for americans.
Led by pietistic protestants they aimed to heal what they saw as an ill society beset by alcohol related problems such as alcoholism. Why did america change its mind. In short prohibition caused far more problems than it solved. Common street punks like al capone and bugsy malone saw an opportunity seized it and shoved us into the era of organized crime gang wars and massive government corruption that persists to this day.
The 18th amendment declared it illegal to manufacture transport and sell alcoholic beverages in the us this was known as prohibition. America had changed it mind on the prohibition law because the prohibition was helping criminals make money. On december 17 1917 the house of representatives voted 282 to 128 to approve the 18th amendment. Prohibitionists first attempted to end the trade in alcoholic drinks during the 19th century.

One of the main reasons that encouraged america to change its mind and repeal the 18th amendment is the rapid increase of crime rate. In which the homicide rate reached from 700k to 1 million americans during the period of prohibition. It happened for three major reasons. America changed its mind on prohibition because it made life hard for americans.
America changed its mind of prohibition because of crime enforcement and money. They said drinking was behind some of america s most serious problems such as corruption child abuse crime unemployment and worker safety.
