This happens when light entering the eye at a certain angle is reflected causing a white eye effect and is totally harmless. Retinal detachment separation of tissues in the back of the eye can also cause a white glow. This harmless reflection most often occurs when the eye is turned about 15 towards the nose. The retinal detachment can be from multiple causes including trauma retinopathy of prematurity seen in premature babies due to delayed development of the vessels in the back of the eye and other congenital diseases.
