Why do we see different constellations during the year. In the summer viewers are looking in a different direction in space at night than they are during the winter. There are more constellations visible from the southern hemisphere because the south pole faces the center of the galaxy and consequently more stars. You ll see that the sun moves thru the constellations of the zodiac.
There are three circumpolar constellations that are visible from most of the southern hemisphere. But why do we see different sets of stars that is different constellations at different times of year. If observed through the year the constellations shift gradually to the west. If you looked up there at different times of night covering all the hours of dark from sunset to sunrise you d.
The answer is that the night sky changes because of earth s orbit around the sun and as you ll see this also explains the path called the ecliptic on the celestial sphere.
