Why Does My Cat Have A Bald Spot
Olivia Luz
I find this interesting because i have a domestic long hair and i also volunteer at a cat shelter where they house short and long hairs among others.
I have three cats and one of my cats had a big bald spot. Hair loss can be in one small area such as an abscess multiple lesions ringworm or large patches of hair loss with conditions such as psychogenic alopecia hyperthyroidism and cushing s syndrome. They all have that every last one. I noticed this on all of them.
Hyperthyroidism or overactive thyroid glands may also be the reason why your cat is going bald. It s not the fleas themselves who cause the bald patches but the cat s reaction to them. Bald spots are a common occurrence in cats they can affect many parts of the body and for any number of reasons. I wouldn t call it a bald spot though.
One cause of hair loss in cats is excessive licking. It occurs when the thyroid gland produces too much of the hormone. There is nothing you can do about this but if you see him her licking in the same spot over and over again then make a low groling sound to stop her from doing it. Cats can scratch and bite themselves raw and create bare patches just because of the constant irritation.

However if a cat licks excessively they can end up tearing out the hair and leading to bald spots. If the cat also becomes allergic to flea saliva this is even worse with inflammation lumps and rashes causing even more damage to the cat s skin. Such as an allergy to a food an abscess ringworm miliary dermatitis psychogenic alopecia folliculitis acne squamous cell carcinoma hyperthyroidism and so forth. It s like they have less hair above their eyes below their ears.
