Your dog interacts with the world differently than humans do. Before you try to fix the problem it is important to find the underlying cause. Licking the carpet may be a sign that your dog is experiencing some anxiety or stress and they re coping by occupying themselves with the carpet. High energy dogs need to be exercised daily or at least have toys that keep them engaged and focused.
Of course it s worrying if we suspect that our dogs are undergoing some kind of anxiety but the best way to deal with the situation is to determine the cause for their stress. My dog has been excessively sniffing and licking the carpet as if there are bugs or something he is trying to get in or under the carpet the past couple days.
