Why Is The Left Ventricle Thicker Than The Right
Olivia Luz
This is to force blood to all body tissues which are located at a greater distance from the body.
The contraction is therefore more forceful. On the inner walls of the ventricles are irregular muscular columns called trabeculae carneae which cover all of the inner ventricular surfaces except that of the conus arteriosus in the right ventricle. Explain why in the heart the wall of the left ventricle is thicker than the wall of the right ventricle. The left ventricular wall is thicker due to the presence of more muscle tissues there.
The right ventricle only pumps blood to the lungs which are very near the heart. Further the left ventricle has thicker walls than the right because it needs to pump blood to most of the body while the right ventricle fills only the lungs. Right ventricle is the chamber which pumps blood to the lungs and has lesser workload and pressure whereas left ventricle pumps blood to the organs of the body which are distant and hence has a higher workload to overcome resistance to maintain blood flow. The wall of the left ventricle is thicker than that of the right ventricle because it needs to generate a greater pressure and velocity.
The left ventricle is further thicker than the right ventricle. The left ventricle needs to pump blood to the eintire body so the greater distance requires higher pressure to make sure the blood is able get all the way to its target organ and come back to the heart too. Why is the left ventricle thicker than the right ventricle. This is because the left ventricle has to transport blood to all the parts of the body and has to travel a long distance hence.
