You can however still freeze whole eggs without their shells. Avoid freezing eggs in the shell eggs freeze well but you want to take them out of their shell first. If an egg accidentally freezes and the shell cracked during freezing discard the egg. Break an egg out of its shell into each of the indentions of the muffin tin.
That s because when frozen in the shell the shells can crack as the liquid inside freezes and expands. Therefore you can t use your frozen eggs to make breakfast with eggs sunny side up. Then thaw it in the refrigerator. However you can use them for virtually any other recipe including omelets and scrambled eggs.
Whole frozen eggs can last up to one year in the freezer. You may wish to freeze the whole egg or just the yolk or white which we have explained below. Egg yolks and egg whites may also be frozen separately and used later for cooking or baking purposes. Unfortunately you can t freeze eggs in the shell and you can t freeze them with their yolks intact.

If the eggs are frozen in the shell this expansion could crack open the egg. We consider this a major win. Freezing eggs in their shells is a bad idea. However if the egg did not crack keep it frozen until needed.
