Can You Put Neosporin On A Piercing
Olivia Luz
Don t apply over the counter antiseptics including neosporin.
Soap and water will do just fine. Neosporin also comes with instructions not to be used on puncture wounds. All neosporin does is prevent oxygen from getting to your piercing and oxygen is a huge thing needed to help it heal. But you don t want to heal a hole you just put in you want it to scar over.
I read somewhere that it prevents oxygen from getting to your piercing. Polysporin bacitracin and polymyxin does not contain this agent and is recommended for treating minor skin infections. Neosporin will try and close the hole up and fix the boo boo. If you think your piercing is getting infected continue your saline rinses and see your piercer for advice.
It will hurt worse and is more likely to get infected. Two of my bumps are boils and two of them are scarring. I would recommend you don t use neosporin polysporin or anything like that on a ear piercing. Continue with the sea salt soaks twice a day and you should be fine.

When i first got mine it was listed do not do this. It kills all bacteria. I had to take. Is it okay to apply it to new piercings to avoid infections.
Neosporin contains neomycin and may cause an allergic reaction. In some cases good in other cases it kills bacteria they your body needs to heal this piercing. While it may be great on wounds putting it on is known to block fresh air from infected piercings and delay healing. They can be hypertrophic scarring or boils as well.
No neosporin is not safe for a piercing. However if you get infected i recommend neosporin and just twist your ring frequently to make sure your belly doesn t stick to it while healing. So like alcohol and peroxide it prolongs healing. If it hurts take two ibuprofen or take a cold towel in a ziplock and freeze it and lay it on the area that hurts but never use neosporin.

If the ear lobe is not red swollen tender warm or draining topical polysporin bacitracin and polymyxin three times per day for seven days may be effective. Neosporin is kinda ok for moisturization lubrication in healed piercings but should not be used in new healing or infected piercings.
