That is why sugar rich food is discouraged as the sugary substance can become lodged in hard to clean areas which can accelerate the formation of cavities and tooth decay. Also as the teeth get straighter less pressure is needed to move the teeth. But if you chew gum all the time your teeth will hurt longer because you keep moving the teeth into unexceptable positions. The answer is no.
