We ve adapted to like our own odors to help us maintain proper hygiene.
And the microbes that make our breath sweat and gas smell foul to others. We wouldn t be able to take care of our own bodies if we were repulsed by. Why do we like the smell of our own farts but no one elses. Farts are like children you love your own and hate everybody elses.
I know what my farts smell like don t like them though but can avise others as to my guilt or lack thereof and end up blaming the dog. But i dont like other peoples farts theyre not as good as mine. In the video they suggest that we may prefer the smell of our own farts because it s both familiar and contains a genetic signature that is unique to each of us. The science behind our personal fart preferences is pretty simple.
The most likely reason we like the smell of our farts is simply because we habituate easily. I think its because we are proud of what we create. Since the smell is mostly caused by the same methane and sulphurs that are produced by the digestion of food in the same ways it should be almost the same smell from one person to another. That means that if we fart all the time which we all do around half a liter a day we re very used to.
