One of the most common reasons to get a painful sore on the roof of your mouth is because of eating hot food.
Many people will get these mouth ulcers on the tongue at some point. The areas where a person can develop mouth sores are tongue sides of cheek gums or palate which is the roof of the mouth. The fungus creates white creamy colored cuts along the inner cheek and tongue that can develop into ulcers if not treated. This is a condition caused by an overgrowth of the fungus candida albicans within the mouth. Anybody can develop sores on tongue due to many reasons. Although a person can also develop sores on the side of the tongue due to a chipped tooth near the affected area of the tongue. Mouth sores which include canker sores are usually a minor irritation and last only a week or two.

Although the problem is usually non threatening and resolves without intervention mouth ulcers are a source of considerable discomfort making it difficult to brush your teeth eat food or even drink fluids.
