Can You Cook Grits In A Rice Cooker

I did it and it was so easy.
Combine 1 cup stone ground cornmeal and 4 cups water or low salt chicken stock in the rice cooker. Grits will continue to thicken so serve immediately. When cooked add 2 tablespoons butter and stir the grits several times. So i threw everything into the rice cooker.
On mine the porridge cycle is about 1 hr 20 mins and you have to do that twice. I put the grits and water in the rice cooker with a pinch of salt and push the button. I of course recommend stone ground grits from the low country or at the very least from the south. Once the grits are cooked season to taste with more salt and pepper and stir in the cheese butter and heavy cream. The cookbook said that you need to cook the grits in 2 cycles in either the porridge setting if you have it or the regular setting if you don t. Add 1 teaspoon kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. I realized that i had also disliked oatmeal made with water so taking a cue from my mother i prepared them with milk.
