So animal cells can have various shapes but plant cells only have the shapes of their cell walls.
Animal cells do not have cell walls because they do not need them. Plant cells have a cell wall composed of cellulose as well as a cell membrane. Cell walls which are found in plant cells maintain cell shape almost as if each cell has its own exoskeleton. The tissues organs and organ systems present in animals require more physical connection than plant cells to allow the passage of macromolecules between cells.
Plant cells have a cell wall because when the plant cell takes in water and it can burst. This is part of what enables animals to move. This means that it is soft pliable and not as heavy as plant tissue. This rigidity allows plants to stand upright without the need for bones.
Animals have skin which acts as a barrier to the outside world and offers protection they do not require a great physical barrier around the individual cells due to this. See full answer below. All cells have cell membranes and the membranes are flexible.
